You would probably expect to see jewelry at a pawnshop (particularly a pawn shop in Boca Raton!). But what about power tools, gaming systems or collectible coins? And that’s just the beginning. 

Most people are surprised to find out how varied the merchandise can be at their local pawnshop. You would probably be equally surprised to discover the kind of deals you can get on all that great merchandise. 

Laurie Blank wrote about 16 Things to Buy from a Pawn Shop for Well Kept Wallet. “The world of the pawn shop has changed,” she says. “It isn’t a shady little store you should be embarrassed to go into. Think of it as a favored bargain store where you can get great deals.”

Blank’s list of things you might find at the pawn shop includes: 

• Musical Instruments

“Several years ago, I bought my kids an $800 keyboard for piano lessons. It was a higher-end model with 88 weighted keys, etc.,” she says. “I saw that same model at a pawn shop for $100. Before you buy new, check your local pawn shop for that musical instrument and see how much money you can save.

• Bicycles

“For some reason, bicycles seem to be a big pawn shop find,” Blank says, adding: “Bike purchases at pawn shops can be especially lucrative if you’re looking for a higher-end bike brand.” That’s good to know, given how difficult finding a bike can be in the age of Covid-19!

• Tools

Has the expense of buying the necessary tools discouraged you from taking on a DIY project around the house? “Tools for home improvement projects, woodworking and other projects are expensive,” Blank notes. “Check out your local pawn shop before buying new. The prices they offer are typically quite a bit lower than what you’ll pay new.”
