Sometimes people who bring their collectibles or jewelry to our Boca Raton pawnshop have at least some idea of what the item is worth. At other times, someone will walk through the doors of our Boca-based pawn shop who really doesn’t know if the item they are carrying has any significant value.  

This year, we have been seeing an increase in the latter. And we think we know why. 

Digging for Gold in Your Closet

Because of Covid-19, we have all been staying home a lot more than we would normally do. And it seems like almost everyone has devoted at least some of that time to digging into their closets and drawers to see what they can let go of. 

If you are among the many who have taken advantage of the opportunity to clean out closets and get organized, you probably found some things that immediately went in the trash pile and others that you would never want to part with. Maybe you forgot why you were holding on to something. Maybe you discovered you could still fit into that outfit you wore the first time it was in style. 

Many people have family pieces taking up room in their cupboards, closets and china cabinets. After accepting the fact that they are not going to use them and that the kids aren’t interested in them, some of these folks bring pieces of their family history to us because they know they can get an informed and fair assessment of the worth of their silver, coins, watches and jewelry from our Boca Raton pawn brokers. 

We love it when we see a customer’s face light up when they learn their great aunt’s gold brooch is the real deal or their grandfathers watch is, in fact, a valuable collector’s item. Unfortunately, we have had to disappoint some of the customers who cleaned out drawers and brought the old jewelry they found to Barry’s Pawn & Jewelry in Boca Raton.
