Lighten Up by Decluttering

Lighten Up by Decluttering

It is time to shed your past baggage! You can do it literally or figuratively (or go for it and do both!). Whether you donate your unwanted items to charity, give them to a young relative starting out or bring them to the pawnshop, decluttering is a great way to start the year.

What Should You Do with Your Treasures?

If you didn’t start the decluttering process last year when the emergence of Covid-19 first sent us all into quarantine, you probably know someone who did. Thrift stores and charities have reported that donations are up. Way up.

Here at our pawnshop in Boca Raton, we have seen an increase in traffic, too. Some treasures may be hard to part with and the thought of donating them to a charity thrift store, where they might not realize the item’s worth, may be a wonderfully generous gesture, but might not be the best way to go.

You can take the treasures your family has accumulated but no longer needs or wants to a reputable jewelry and pawn shop. Knowing your items will be valued and appreciated will make letting go a little easier – and you can always donate the money you receive from the pawnshop to the charity of your choice.

One Man’s Treasure Is Another Man’s Trash

You are probably used to seeing that the other way around. And, white it is true that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, it is equally true that the things you and your family may have treasured over the year’s are not suitable to donate or sell.

On Bob Vila’s website, you will find a list of things that your local thrift store doesn’t want you to donate. The list ranges from obvious things like toiletries and cosmetics to less obvious things like car seats and strollers. You’ll also find some good suggestions for targeting donations like prescription glasses and sneakers.

The list also includes weapons. If you have guns or collectible weapons that you are ready to let go of, you will be happy to know that you can bring them to Barry’s Jewelry and Pawn in Boca Raton.
