Do Pawn Shops Sell Pre-Owned Omega Watches?

There are several different name-brand luxury watches: Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Omega, Jaeger-LeCoultre, IWC Schaffhausen, and more. There is no denying that Omega watches are one of the most widely recognized brand names in the world.

The Omega brand is known for high-quality, extreme precision, and beautiful craftsmanship in the watch industry.

LaChaux de fonds, Switzerland

Let’s take a trip to La Chaux de fonds Switzerland in 1848. The small town in the Jura Mountains was rebuilt after a wildfire in 1794 destroyed most of the buildings.

When the small village was rebuilt, it was built with uniform construction and wide streets with stucco townhouses and patio gardens.

The arrangement of townhouses was built for watchmaking. As the city expanded, the stucco buildings were added in a checkerboard pattern, providing optimal lighting for the southeast-facing watch-making workshops.

Bell towers and a few high-rise buildings line the skyline and exemplify the city’s cultural diversity. La Chaux de fonds established Switzerland as a watchmaking center.

An individual may create watch dials in his front parlor workshop and work alongside his neighbor, who specializes in crafting balance wheels. The two neighbors would work with another community member one street over known for his skills in creating watch crowns.

Up to 3000 watchmakers worked in their front parlor workshops and specialized as movement-blank producers, gem-cutters, escapement-makers, profile turners, and many others.

A shared watchmaking system called etablissage was started in the 1600s. The people of La Chaux de fonds would make hand-crafted watches for a couple of hundred years and sometimes sell them during peddling trips.

Today the town is called La Tchaux with its 40,000 residents. In 1837 the neo-Baroque theater was built, and in 1955, the Salle de Musique opened. Made for Pierre Jaunde d’Hautervive, found in the region, the building has a yellowish cast and is quite expensive. The watch industry financed the build because they wanted everything world-class.

Louis Brandt in La Chaux de Fonds Switzerland in 1848

At 23 years old, Louis Brandt owned a small watchmaking workshop. He had a modest business for thirty years, selling his watches worldwide. He passed away in 1879, and his sons stepped in to carry on Louis Brant’s legacy.

Omega History Built on Accuracy, Precision, and Easy Repairs

Louis Paul and Cesar grew the business and moved it to a more extensive shop in Biel/Bienne. Within five years, the Brandt brothers launched their first series produced calibre, the Labrador. It was excellent for the time and created a foundation for future Omega watches less than ten years later.

By 1892 the Brandt brothers went on to make the first minute repeating wristwatch, and by 1894 they released the 19 ligne-calibre. This watch set a new standard for watchmakers, and this achievement was known as “OMEGA.” By 1903 Omega Watch Co. had become the most prominent luxury watch-making company in Switzerland.

In 1905 Omega was the official timekeeper at 16 different events and was the preferred watch because of its precision and accuracy.

By 1909 Omega watches were made on all six continents and were preferred by many. To repair the watches, Omega was created so anyone could repair them.

In 1932 Omega acquired one of its most important roles as official timekeepers at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, California. Omega has served as the official timekeeper for over twenty Olympic games for nearly a century.

Ten years later, the Seamaster was released to celebrate the company’s 100th Anniversary. The elegant, water-resistant watches meant for an active lifestyle are still in production today. The Seamaster is a diverse collection with eight different sub-collections. Both mechanical and quartz movements can power the luxury watch—the most diverse collection of Omega watches.

The Seamaster collection has expanded to meet several different active lifestyles’ unique needs. Within the group, you will find the Seamaster 1847, Seamaster 300, Seamaster Railmaster, Seamaster Bullhead, Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M, Seamaster Diver 300M, Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M, and Seamaster 1200M.

Omega Reaches the Moon

In 1965 NASA chose the Omega Speedmaster as the official chronometer. Neil Armstrong wore the Speedmaster official watch on the moon in 1969. The company presented the first self-winding wristwatch with a central tourbillon. The Speedmaster continued to be a crucial tool for NASA, and astronauts on the Apollo 13 mission wore it and returned home safe and sound. In 1970 NASA presented Omega with the Snoopy Award for their contribution to the mission.

Gracing the Wrists of Prominent Men

Omega watches owners are mainly in their 30s and 40s, and 71% of wearers are men. Several influential men have owned, and worn Omega watches. While Niel Armstong left his Speedmaster on the Eagle Apollo Lunar Module, Buzz Aldrin wore his when he took his first steps on the mood.

John Kennedy owned an engraved Omega Ultra Thin wristwatch and wore it to his inauguration ceremony.

Elvis Presley wore an Omega Constellation while he was in the army.

Prince Williams owns and wears a Seamaster Professional.

Astronaut Wally Schirra wore a Speedmaster on his Mercury Sigma 7 mission in 1965, and this was the first Omega watch in space.

George Cloney owns an Omega Speedmaster and has been seen wearing the Seamaster Plant Ocean and the Aqua Terra.

In 1968, Ralph Plaisted Kelly was the first man to reach the North Pole and brought along an Omega. The expedition of 43 days used Omega Speedmasters on the journey.

Besides the numerous awards Omega watches have won, there is no denying how prestige a company is when famous and well-known people sport the watch models.

James Bond, 007, and Omega Watches

James Bond has worn Omega Seamaster watches since 1995 in 9 different Hollywood hits:

Owning your Omega watch – consider pre-owned.

If you have decided to invest in an Omega watch, you are probably wondering what Omega watches are the best price and how you might afford one.

Shopping for a previously owned Omega watch might be the answer.

First, check the authenticity of the watch. Does it come with the original paperwork or the box? What do the service records say?

Some stores sell Omega watches after they are authenticated because of the proper tools and knowledge to determine if the Omega watches are authentic.

Some Omega watches depreciate with time, although they do maintain their value. Limited edition watches and original vintage Omega pre-owned watches purchased at the right price will save you money and be an investment you can liquate later.

There is no question that Omega has achieved many innovations and, as a result, revolutionized the watchmaking industry. From a small workshop in Switzerland, the town’s residents worked together to make watches to send to peddlers.

According to SjX ” annual Swiss watch export figures recently published by trade body Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry (FH) reached an all-time high of CHF22.3 billion in 2021, with CHF 21.2 billion of that for wristwatches alone.”

All pre-owned Omega watches’ costs vary depending on the model, functionality, condition, demand, and original boxing and documentation.

Shopping at a pawn shop will provide you with options. Pre-owned Omega watches for sale can cost from $1,500 to $80,000. Precision metal Omega watches will cost more than stainless steel models. Stainless steel watches will retain more of their original value.
